'What's Happening Wednesdays' returns!

Meet the team behind the ENOA Public Affairs and New Horizons newspaper!

Public Affairs Director Mitch Laudenback and Editor Ron Petersen work together to keep the 60+ community across five counties informed and connected. From printing 8,300 copies monthly to sharing local wellness tips, they are dedicated to celebrating vibrant, active aging.

Editorial Mission
The team focuses on "dispelling negative myths and stereotypes" of aging by providing a realistic, lively portrait of life after 60. While produced by staff of all ages, they actively recruit and feature older writers to ensure an authentic voice. Each issue typically includes:

• Wellness & Health Hacks: Practical advice for daily living.

• Community Highlights: Updates on local events, such as National Volunteer Month or the "Luau Amazing Volunteers" celebrations.

• Legislative News: Crucial updates on topics like the Nebraska Caregiver Tax Credit.

TODAY IS World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)2026

The theme for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2026 is "Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work". This year marks the 20th global observance, emphasizing a shift from merely recognizing abuse to executing tangible, preventive measures for older adults.

Elder Abuse Awareness Day reminds us of the importance of protecting older adults and ensuring they are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

A simple check-in, conversation, or act of support can make a meaningful difference.

On this month's 'What's Happening Wednesdays' we focus on the Public Affairs Division that includes our popular New Horizons newspaper!

Public Affairs Division:
Serves as the agency’s contact with the media outlets for news stories. Send out press releases promoting ENOA’s events. Manage social media accounts, & ENOA’s website. Public Affairs has a creative component. We create brochures, fliers, newsletters, posters, and anything to promote ENOA and its programs.

New Horizons Newspaper:
The New Horizons is ENOA’s primary source of information for the five-county area’s 60 and older population. The publication strives to present a positive image of older Nebraskans by reporting on issues like health & wellness, healthcare, travel, nutrition, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and ENOA’s programs and services.
