Comeback Athlete Spotlight: Sullivan Jackson

Everything was looking up for Sullivan last year - he made state in cross country and was the starting point guard on the basketball team. His sophomore year at Cornerstone Christian School was also starting strong with a medal at state cross country. But then he underwent surgery for hip impingement.

Instead of starting with the varsity basketball team, Sullivan was in crutches, then a brace and then faced a lengthy rehabilitation process. Through the whole ordeal, he was resilient. He spent hours in the weight room, running and practicing on the basketball court.

When it came time to see if he had returned to his previous form? The answer was a resounding yes! He medaled at state cross country again - and led his team to a third-place finish. During basketball season, he returned to his role of starting point guard and was the leading scorer.

We are proud to spotlight Sullivan’s strength and determination as he fought to return to the sports he loves!

Whether you’re participating in a sport, spectating or just soaking up the sun, it’s important to stay safe when outside in the heat this summer.

Comeback Athlete Spotlight: Laini Michaelis

When Laini felt something shift in her knee during basketball practice, she didn’t realize how serious it was. In fact, she played a game the next day! But after an MRI, it became clear that she had torn her MPFL. She finished basketball season wearing a brace, and even helped Skutt Catholic High School win its first state title!

However, issues kept arising as she entered softball season. Her kneecap kept dislocating, and her leg would give out. Laini pushed through the pain to finish her senior season. Finishing the basketball season was another story.

Because she will play softball in college, Laini had to prioritize her health. One day before her surgery, she played her final basketball game in January, where she scored a career-high 23 points!

We are proud to spotlight Laini’s perseverance and strength as she worked to return to the softball field!

Our sports medicine team was on-site for the 60th anniversary of the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo — and our team was ready to provide expert care along with local EMS personnel after a bull rider's mask took a hard hit!

Close calls like that deserve a great care team, and we're proud to be part of that team. 🤠
