The Sheet Metal Union of Omaha, Nebraska was started by a number of dedicated tradesmen in the late 1880’s. Omaha, together with six other mid-western metal labor groups, met on January 25, 1888 in Toledo, Ohio to form the “Tin Sheet-Iron and Cornice Workers International Union.”

There's no shortcut to getting good at this trade.
Every hour in the shop is an hour building the instincts, muscle memory, and attention to detail that separate a good sheet metal worker from a great one. Our apprentices put in the work, every single day.

Every line in the notebook becomes a skill in the field.
Before apprentices begin fabricating, welding, or installing, they learn the math, layouts, and principles that make precision possible. The work starts long before the tools come out.
Success in the apprenticeship doesn’t happen by accident, it comes from showing up, putting in the work, and learning from those who came before you.
For this apprentice, Local 3 has been about accountability, opportunity, and growth. The apprenticeship program challenges members to become the best version of themselves while building a career they can be proud of.
When you follow the path laid by generations of skilled sheet metal workers, the possibilities are endless. The knowledge, support, and mentorship found through the union help create not just better workers, but stronger individuals.
Hear firsthand how the union has helped shape one apprentice’s journey. 💪
