Hear Nebraska
Hear Nebraska documented, produced events for and educational opportunities within Nebraska's music
Hear Nebraska meaningfully connects and engages fans, artists and communities through music journalism, education and events.
Ten years ago this month, we published Hear Nebraska’s first story on Tumblr, while its website neared completion. We couldn’t wait to tell stories about this fascinating side of Nebraska that always existed — the scrappy musicians and venues and recording studios and music-related businesses that choose to create or stimulate culture right here in Nebraska, you know, despite it. We’ve written about (bit.ly/2ZKO8aL) — and many of you watched — what happened for the next eight years until Hear Nebraska became part of Rabble Mill. (So many of you either did that work, or made it possible. So thank you, sincerely, for that support.)
Since, Rabble Mill has been working to harness in a new program one of the things that we thought was magical about Hear Nebraska: the relationships, skills and opportunities created when you pair a compelling cause with passionate, talented young people.
As we’ve seen with stark clarity this summer, our youth are often the very best of us — they give us hope. So we’re going to continue to invest in them. Rabble Media is a for-youth, by-youth, storytelling platform working to connect, engage and develop digitally skilled young people (roughly 14-24) across urban and rural Nebraska. It joins The Bay and Skate for Change as a Rabble Mill program. And it’s led by a team of dynamic, creative young people who are going to tell the stories they want to tell, the way they want to tell them, recruiting others along the way.
How you can help: If there was something about HN that moved you, please consider sharing that story and this video with young people in your life. Invite them to contribute to Nebraska’s next story at rabblemedia.org.
** Huge thanks to the Archrival team for the Rabble Media branding, and to Jake Welchert for its website! 🙏🙏🙏
