Emmy was a little over eager today but here is a short tutorial for the first steps to Leave It! Remember: never give your dogs the Leave It item! Always have a separate reward to offer for success.

I'm so proud! Remi graduated Advanced class tonight! While I wish that I had been there, I am unbelievably proud of all his hard work and of his parents! Great job everyone!

I'm under the weather so for this week's Training Tuesday I snagged this great photo off the web to talk about an issue I get lots of questions about. Barking at the windows and doors is something I get weekly complaints about from my pet parents and it has one of the easiest solutions. Manage your situation by limiting your dogs access to view points like windows. Frosted glass, window clings, and curtains are all good solutions! Now some people will say that their dogs love to look out the window, so they don't want to cover it and spoil their fun. While it's true that some dogs may enjoy looking out the window, reactive dogs do not. If your dog frantically barks at every passing car or neighbor, they are in a near constant state of fear. Imagine you are terrified of zombies, and you spend all day staring out the window waiting and watching for any zombies that may come near your home. Are you looking outside because you enjoy it, or are you anxiously on alert for danger? Save your dog (and yourself!) The stress and cover up your windows. There are some excellent non-permanent window clings for renters. Another solution would be to give your dogs some exciting enrichment to keep their brains busy. Puzzle toys and slow feeders are excellent ways to keep your dog engaged and out of trouble. Share your favorite dog toys and puzzles in the comments!

This week's Training Tuesday tip is about ditching the word NO! and replacing it with YES! Catch your dog doing something good (waiting at the door, sharing their toys, settling, ect) and say YES while offering a treat. This simple trick sets your dog up for success and let's them know which behaviors are rewarded. This skill is just as important for advanced students as it is for beginners. It's easy to forget to look for all the good things our pups do! Have a great week and thanks for joining!
