Quiet weather is expected today and tomorrow. Tomorrow morning, frost is possible in parts of northeast Nebraska and western Iowa. Rain and thunderstorms will move into the area on Wednesday and persist through Friday. 1 to 3 inches of rainfall are possible with the highest amounts expected along Nebraska/South Dakota border.

. Omaha Fire Department issues Burn Ban

Update: The Douglas County burn has been lifted as of Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

A burn ban has been issued for Douglas County beginning Friday, September 29, 2023 at 0700 hours.

This is due to the presence of unharvested, dry crops, and a forecast of warm, dry and breezy weather. The ban will remain in effect until further notice.

The ban primarily applies to permit-required open burns such as brush piles, leaves, etc. All burn permits will remain suspended until the burn ban has been lifted.

NOTE: The ban does not apply to approved fireworks and/or fireworks displays.

Residential fire pits are allowed to be used during the burn ban. For residential fire pits, we ask that people use caution and common sense.

Residential fire pits consist of:
• being located at a single-family structure
• burning only clean, dry wood
• contained in an outdoor fireplace or an enclosed pit

Please stay safe and practice fire prevention. Be mindful of ci******es and embers as they can easily spark fires during these conditions. Open-pit fires, campfires, and burning of yard waste or other materials are not allowed. Cooking with a grill is permitted.
