Severe storms possible again tonight. This could be an impactful event with wind gusts 75 mph or greater possible. We could also see ping-pong ball size hail, and can't rule out tornadoes. Timing for storms looks to be between 5 PM and 1 AM.

The severe thunderstorm watch has been extended until 7am for much of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Another round of storms will push through the area before sunrise.

Well, we can "see" wind farms as much as 120 miles away tonight/this morning!

A really strong temperature inversion near the surface (temperatures rapidly increase just above the surface) can "trap" (or duct) the radar beam and cause it to hit near-ground objects it normally wouldn't. In this case, wind farms can be easily picked out.

(Hint, one of the furthest you can pick out is in southern Minnesota)

Dry conditions are expected today before a cold front brings a chance of strong and severe thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms will move across Iowa early this morning, then yield to dry but slightly cool weather from this afternoon through Sunday. Monday will be somewhat milder with highs in the 70s, but then thunderstorm chances return from late Monday into Tuesday. Severe weather may be possible during this time, with details of that potential becoming clearer over the next couple of days.

Another round of significant rain is forecast on Monday when severe weather returns to the area.
