I just wanted to make a post expressing my gratitude towards everyone involved in the open mics that I attend and host. Four years ago I went through a very traumatic experience that made it difficult for me to even do basic activities like going to the grocery store. I realized life was too short and I needed to pursue music. It has always been a life long dream and passion of mine. Going to the The Down Under Open Mic was nerve racking and scary, but was ultimately my start on a path of radical healing. Doing what I loved made me feel alive again. I quickly started attending as many open mics as I could, and that is when hosting the Shakedown Street Tavern open mic fell into my lap. Since then I formed a band, booked a bunch of gigs, and made life long friends all through this musical network. It is an honor to facilitate a space where others can feel confident to hone their skills, connect with each other, and share their art. I have so much love and passion for this community and I can’t wait to see how we all grow together! Week after week I am blown away by the talent and kindness you all share with the world and with me. Thank you all for reminding how magical life can be!
