Untraditional Fruits

It is with very mixed emotions that we are announcing that we have sold the farm and are closing Untraditional Fruits. When we embarked on this adventure in 2023, we couldn’t imagine how much the country was going to change in three short years. Farm bills that subsidize factory farming by mega corporations while harming small farms, the cessation of EPA programs that support eco-agriculture, and the barrage of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation across the country have forced us to make some difficult decisions. The current climate is not just challenging as farm owners, it’s unsafe for us as trans people. We now live in a country where we can’t travel safely in more than half of US states.

When we bought the farm, we elected to put on hold our dream to travel (livestock and crops need a lot of year-round care). So, while this is not the path we thought our lives would take, we are optimistically using this as an opportunity to pursue a different dream of spending time abroad. We have spent the last few months wrapping things up on the farm, and we are now leaving for greener pastures. To be clear: we’re not disengaging from US politics, but we will have better capacity to engage when our physical safety and mental health aren’t constantly threatened.

We want to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who bought merchandise from our fundraising shop, purchased eggs and produce, or engaged with our social media to increase visibility.

They have supported us over the years and have kindly taken over some of the grants and projects we were working on. We can’t say enough amazing things about them, so give them some love in our stead!

We’ve been taking a much-needed break from socials outside of the growing season, but we are so excited to share that we’ve been nominated for the 2026 GSBA Impact Awards. Each year, GSBA recognizes LGBTQ+ and allied leaders, businesses, and organizations whose work strengthens our communities and expands opportunities across Washington.
This nomination reflects the work we do with our partners, supporters, and community members—work focused on building connection, supporting local businesses, uplifting rising leaders, and creating spaces where LGBTQ+ individuals and families feel welcomed and represented.
