Today, we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and honor the strength, resilience, and countless contributions of Black Americans throughout our nation’s history.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a powerful reminder of the long journey toward justice and the importance of truth, freedom, and equality for all.

This Memorial Day we remember all those who died for our freedom. We honor them for making the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
