Could not have said it better myself! šš»šš»šš» I really wish that coffee was not the example used, because I love my coffee! This post is NOT about bashing coffee. I need it every single morning. It is more about what goes in to a gallon of milk before it even reaches the grocery store.
Iāve been thinking a lot about how we view āvalueā when it comes to food.
Most people donāt think twice about spending $5ā$7 on a fancy coffee drink. Itās a treat, itās convenient, it tastes good, and itās gone in 20ā30 minutes. Totally fine ā Iām not here to trash coffee. I enjoy a good treat here and there too.
But that same hesitation often shows up when it comes to buying a gallon of milk.
A gallon of milk often costs about the same as one fancy coffee ā but instead of one drink, you get 16 cups. Thatās 16 servings of protein, calcium, vitamin D, and other essential nutrients. It lasts most families a week or more and gets used for drinking, cereal, baking, cooking, and kidsā lunches. Broken down, thatās roughly 25ā35Ā¢ per serving.
Hereās the part most people donāt see: before a cow ever produces a single drop of milk, it takes a minimum of two years to raise her. Two years of feed, bedding, veterinary care, housing, labor, and daily care ā with no return yet. And even then, thereās risk. Some animals never make it into the milking herd or arenāt able to produce long-term. By the time milk hits the shelf, there are thousands of dollars invested long before that first gallon is ever sold.
A coffee drink is one serving, one moment. Milk stretches across meals and days. It feeds families, not just cravings.
Milk isnāt expensive ā itās undervalued.
So next time you pick up a gallon of milk, remember how much goes into it before it ever reaches your cart. Sometimes value isnāt about the price tag ā itās about what lasts, what nourishes, and what truly feeds a household.

We have been praying and thinking about our fellow farmers and friends throughout North Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Now it looks like it could be our turn. While we do the best to prepare for Milton, we are also thinking of everyone in Miltonās path. Please stay safe, and if you have any extra prayersā¦please pray for not only our farm, but everyone in this path.
