Okeechobee DAR Chapter meets at 10am on the second Saturday of the month Oct - May at the First Methodist Fellowship Hall or announced locations.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded October 11, 1890, and incorporated in 1896, by an Act of Congress. The motto of “God, Home and Country” motivates the nearly 170,000 members around the world. The Florida Society Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in 1895. Saturday, September 10th our chapter “made a buzz” as we greeted our State Regent to our town and the Historic Bank Building. We all enjoyed her energizing speech, a time of fellowship and a wonderful catered meal.

Our April meeting included new member Opal Wolff’s welcome and our Women’s Health guest speaker, Cheryl Kirton.

During our March Meeting we held a Memorial Service and dedicated a tribute bench to beloved past members, Lorna Green and Alyce Hundley.

3rd place - tie - Pat Paretta, Cora Stickney Harper - preserving and maintaining a 1893 stone chapel and Margaret Cable, Okeechobee - annual Seminole Indian wars reenactment and education

This weekend we honored our chapter’s Regent, Lonnie Kirsch. She appeared on the runway (processional), on the stage (choir) and on the big screen (presentation picture) at our state conference.

This weekend was our chapter’s annual participation in the Seminole War Reenactment on the Okeechobee Battlefield. We sold cookies and cold bottled water to numerous visitors as well as shared information about DAR.

January’s program was “Founding Daughters” by Margaret Gibbs. This readers’ theater was directed by Honorary Regent, Letta Jordan with a cast of eight of our chapter members.

Okeechobee’s DAR and SAR had several members who joined with Highlands SAR and Heritage Society to tour the Edna Pearce Lockett Estate. The events included a walk through the historic Pearce-Lockett home, a visit to the old school house, a family graveyard tour, lunch on the estate grounds and a boat ride on the Kissimmee River.

Our November chapter meeting had speakers from our local Wreathes Across America. Our Thanksgiving treat themed table was provided by Iris Leona Worth Pelham. Leona offered the tableware/decorations as our monthly drawing prize. Becky Barnhart was the lucky winner.

The Treasure Coast Regents Council hosted a luncheon to welcome our new state regent, Dr Debbie Duay. Five Okeechobee DAR members were in attendance at this Port St Lucie event.
