Happy Chinese New Year, as yesterday we welcomed the Year of the Rabbit.
Chinese New Year superstition suggests that you should have already cleaned your home leading into the New Year to "sweep away the dust" (put away bad things, and bid farewell to the old year). If you didn't clean your home before, cleaning on the first day of the New Lunar Year is strictly forbidden, even washing the dishes. Why? Because you don't want to sweep away the bad luck that arrived at the stroke of midnight. If you absolutely have to clean, sweep the mess into the corner of your home, but not out the door.

Depending on your traditions, you may not have cleaned yesterday, and you may not be cleaning today or tomorrow either (some suggest waiting until the third day).
