The Baja Ranchero uses titanium extensively for heat shielding, dissipation, component and occupant protection? Titanium is an unmatched material for the type of extreme service environment the team races in!
Good luck to the team as they compete in the NORRA Mexican 1000 beginning Friday, April 28 ๐
Lets talk about fire suppressoin!
Our long time followers will remember last year we had a big scare when a stuck needle/seat on the carburetor and a backfire started a major fire that almost cost us the car. Luckily, we got it out with the two extinguishers we had, but it was a very close call.
I instantly decided I would investigate all the options to protecting the car and its occupants and pretty much went over the top and implemented everythign I could find. We installed an Halon system that protects the passengers first, but can be directed to the engine if appropriate. We installed three bottle extingishers, two Element 50 stick extinguishers, and no less than four "fire balls"
Here is a walk around of what we have done to make sure this car doesn't end up a pile of melted tubing in the Desert.
