He works SO hard for things most of us never even have to think about. Some days are frustrating, some things take hundreds of repetitions, and he has every reason to be completely over it. Yet somehow, through all the hard work, Vasu still gives us that smile. I’ll never stop being amazed by his determination and joy. 💛

Still in awe of my “vegetative state” miracle. 💜

Doctors told us Vasu would be in a vegetative state and bedridden for life. Today, he’s working his way through an obstacle course with the help of his therapist and PUMA ENLITEN. Right now, he needs support, and that’s okay because every assisted step is practice for the independence we’re working toward. One day, our warrior will do it on his own. 💪🏽

Together 🫶🏽

DMI therapy challenges him. PUMA ENLITEN supports him. Vasu brings the determination. Together, we’re giving his brain and body more opportunities to practice balance, control, coordination, and movement. The work is hard, but Vasu keeps showing up and doing hard things.

PUMA ENLITEN 💪🏽

The PUMA is a pediatric mobility device that provides adjustable body-weight support, giving Vasu the assistance he needs while still allowing him to actively practice walking and moving on his own. It gives him the opportunity to work on his strength, balance, coordination, endurance, and confidence while experiencing more independent movement. The work is still his, and it’s definitely not always easy, but our warrior keeps pushing through the hard things one step at a time.

Curb walking 👻

Something as simple as curb walking can be such powerful therapy for Vasu. With his right side being more affected, having his right leg positioned higher challenges him to load and stabilize through that side while working on weight shifting, balance, strength, and body awareness.

Yes, it’s hard. Yes, it takes a lot of effort. But Vasu doesn’t give up, and Mrs. Nicole doesn’t let him give up either! Every uneven step is another opportunity for his brain and body to work together and another step toward strength, confidence, and independence. 🖤

Water Therapy 💙💦

For a child with sensory needs, the water can be so much more than just a place to swim. Water therapy gives Vasu opportunities to work on movement, body awareness, regulation, balance, coordination, strength, and confidence while giving his sensory system a completely different experience. Sometimes the best therapy doesn’t even look like therapy.

Never underestimate him 💚

Taking turns, mimicking, waiting, engaging… this is HUGE for a kid who was once expected to remain in a vegetative state. These aren’t just little moments to us. They’re signs of learning, understanding, connection, and progress. Every day Vasu reminds us why you never put limits on what a child may be capable of.

Today Vasu took his occupational therapy session outside at The Children’s Institute’s inclusive playground! From climbing, balancing, reaching, and exploring to supporting his sensory needs through movement and play, there are so many ways to work on important skills outside the therapy room. Sometimes the best therapy looks a whole lot like PLAY.

Every child deserves a place to play. 💙

The Children’s Institute has an inclusive playground, and today Vasu got to take his OT session outside! Inclusive playgrounds give kids of ALL abilities the opportunity to play, explore, work on new skills, and simply be kids. Therapy doesn’t always have to happen inside four walls, and we love having a space where accessibility and inclusion allow Vasu to learn while having FUN.
