Tom Fisher was one of the coolest dudes I met.

In my early twenties I lived in a crazy house. We opted for instruments over food, and crayoned all the walls with weird art. Our garage was covered in a ghetto soundproofing of mattresses we had appropriated from trucks that would take them to Tijuana for resale, and we would jam for hours and hours every night, record those jams, and then immediately listen back to them while critiquing each other and playing video games.

Over those two years of impoverished insanity and compulsive practice, Tom was the only adult our parents age who came by without judgement, and treated what we were doing as something acceptable, that maybe even made sense.

Later, when I quit my first business, he let us rehearse for free in his drum studio in Poway during our final stages of Interrobang and the first stages of Fistfights With Wolves. He didn’t have to be cool with a bunch of knucklehead kids but he was.

He’d come out to shows and was consistently supportive of the experimental, the avante garde, and the counter culture.

I hope that as we get older, we can all be as cool as Tom.
