Through decades of faithful and passionate service, Last Chance at Life has saved thousands of dogs, cats, and birds, beloved companions who were often overlooked due to medical or behavioral needs, shelter overcrowding, or simply being a “less popular” breed. For so many of them, we fulfilled our mission and were truly their last chance at life.

As we close our rescue operations on December 31, 2025, our hearts are full of gratitude. This journey would not have been possible without the adopters who opened their homes, the fosters who offered safety and patience, the volunteers who gave their time and love, the donors who sustained our mission, and the supporters and community partners who stood with us through every challenge and triumph.

Thank you for believing in our work and for the animals who needed us most! Because of you, together we saved countless lives and placed them with their forever families. Though our doors may be closing, the legacy of compassion we built together will live on in every life saved. With heartfelt appreciation, we thank you for walking this journey with us.

Timothy is still available! This energetic 5-year-old, 35lb terrier mix loves walks and play but also settles really nicely at home on a dog bed. He would be a great addition to a low traffic home with a family that will give him time and patience as he learns to trust his new people and feel safe in his new home. Timothy needs a family that can set and enforce rules so that he can know where he stands and enjoy being someone’s amazing dog. If you’re looking for a companion who likes to relax but also likes to adventure, Timothy is your guy! 🐾❤️ Photo by

****Adopted*****
Timothy 5-year-old terrier mix who’s a bit like Shrek... like an onion... with lots of layers. Now that he has relaxed in his foster home and knows that he is safe, his foster mom is seeing more and more of Timothy’s layers and depth.

Lately his foster describes him as bursting with energy and curiosity! He even surprised her one day by running circles around the house and even getting the other dog to join in the fun.

Timothy tends to be nervous around new people at first, but he warms up with time, treats and patience. Once comfortable with you, he loves to receive your pets and affection.

Timothy is great on a leash and well-behaved in relaxed public settings, though so far he doesn’t enjoy lots of chaos and he is not the type to want to say hi to every dog and human while out and about. He’d rather observe and stay close to His Person.

Timothy has done well with respectful kids in his neighborhood that are as young as age 6. He has done well with dogs of all sizes when introduced properly. He has a good amount of prey drive as is typical with his breed, so if a cat were to run, he would likely want to give chase, but if a cat stands its ground, they would likely quickly learn to ignore each other or even be friends.

Timothy is looking for a family that can help him continue to learn and grow. He needs someone who is willing to give him time to decompress. He also needs boundaries and clear rules. Please let us know if you are interested in learning more about this sweet, handsome dog!

Don't be fooled by his size. Timothy the 5yo, 35lb terrier mix is is a whole lot of dog in a smaller package!A smart, physical, sweet and headstrong guy. He came to us as a stray and it seems he felt his trust had been betrayed. He was slow to relax and unwind but we're getting closer to his real personality every day.

When he first arrived he was lethargic, mopey and maybe even a little grouchy. Within a couple days he started to develop a spring to his step. Within weeks, we're up to flying leaps, fear of him climbing the fence and great curiosity of all things outdoors.

In his past life it seems he wasn't given much guidance on good citizenship but he's shown great willingness to learn the rules of the house and abide by them.

His trust issues make him a a little skeptical toward most new people. Treats will ease introductions. Ultimately, he may take a little longer to settle into a new situation than some dogs. Once relaxed though he's a physically active, fun, loving guy. Great on leash. Good in car. A patient and well behaved companion in public.

He's strong of personality too (stubborn😉) so will do best in a family willing to set and enforce rules. Still a little resource guarding but progress daily.

Does this little sparkplug sound like the perfect addition to your family? Apply today and let’s set up a meet and greet to see if Timothy is the one for you!

Happy from Stewie, our sweet 1yo beagle mix who is somehow, shockingly, still available for adoption! This dog is a huge love and will bring so much joy to his family’s life. He enjoys all people, all dogs, as well as all the snuggles, walks, naps, and adventures. He is a great size at 29lbs. He would be great with an active family and we have seen him interact with kids as young as 2. He was very friendly and excited to say hi and we were able to coach him to sit for the interaction. He’d be a fun family dog, or really a fun dog for any family/home! Please share and help us get this adorable boy adopted!

Happy to Petey!

Petey, the 1.5-year-old tri-colored terrier mix, hit the jackpot with his new dad, Brian!

Brian connected with Petey during his weekly trips to Animal Friends of the Valleys with his grandson for the cat reading program. When Petey was transferred to LCAL, Brian feared he had lost the pup for good. But fate had other plans, and he was reunited with Petey through LCAL. Clearly these two are meant to be together! 🐶❤️

Brian is an incredibly devoted dog dad, and Petey is one lucky dog whose life is now filled with love, companionship and adventure.

We're so happy to know Petey is living his best life with a dad who adores him. 💖

Got a case of the Monday blues? Timothy totally gets it. He’s still deciding whether to listen to his foster mom and come inside, or to keep soaking up some sunshine first. ☀️This curious and cautious boy is learning the ropes of home life in his foster home, but what he’s really waiting for is his forever family. Could you be the one to show him that Mondays aren’t so bad when you’ve got love, belly rubs, and a cozy spot by your side? Let’s make Timothy’s day—and week—by helping him find his perfect home!
