Contractor Insurance Checklist for Summer Projects Before your next big bid, make sure you have:
➡️ Active $25k Contractor License Bond
➡️ Workers’ Comp (required — even for many solo operators)
➡️ General Liability (don’t get barred from jobs)
➡️ Proper limits for your equipment/vehicles
➡️ Recent policy review (growth = potential gaps) Missing any of these? One oversight can delay payments or worse.

California small businesses are prime targets for ransomware.
Cyber Liability isn’t just for tech companies; it helps cover ransom payments, data recovery, legal fees, customer notifications, and lost income after breaches.
Real example: One local business avoided shutdown thanks to their policy covering a phishing attack that locked their files. Basic steps like employee training, multi-factor authentication, and backups reduce risk, but insurance provides the financial safety net.
Protect your data, clients, and reputation today.

Do you REALLY need Workers’ Comp if you have no employees?
If you're licensed under certain California contractor classifications, the answer may be yes.
California currently requires Workers’ Comp coverage for contractors holding the following license classifications, even with no employees:
• C-8 Concrete
• C-20 HVAC
• C-22 Asbestos Abatement
• D-49 Tree Service
Solo operators can often get affordable "ghost" policies with $0 payroll.
Have one employee—even part-time or a family member? Coverage is required immediately.
Don’t risk your livelihood: get it right the first time. Let’s talk about what coverage is right for you.

California contractors: Do you know the $25,000 Contractor License Bond is required to keep your CSLB license active? And that it’s not the same as insurance? This bond protects customers if you don’t finish a job or violate licensing rules, but it doesn’t cover your own lawsuits, injuries, or property damage.
Most contractors also need the $100,000 LLC Employee/Benefit Bond if structured as an LLC, plus proof of $1M General Liability.
Missing or wrong bonding = license denial or suspension.
I can guide you through exactly what you need in 2026 to stay compliant and bidding on jobs.

Here are 5 quick signs your coverage is outdated:
(1) You’ve hired employees,
(2) Added vehicles/equipment,
(3) Taken on bigger projects,
(4) Moved or expanded locations, or
(5) Haven’t reviewed it in 12+ months.
A quick conversation with a local broker can uncover gaps and often save money through better bundling or discounts without cutting protection.

Using your personal truck for job sites in California?
Your personal auto policy probably won’t cover it; most exclude business use entirely. If you get into an accident while hauling tools, visiting clients, or on a job, expect a denial that leaves you personally liable for damages and injuries.
Switch to Commercial Auto for proper protection, and add Hired & Non-Owned Auto (HNOA) coverage if employees or subs use their own vehicles for your business. This is one of the most common gaps we fix for SoCal contractors.

A lot of business owners think General Liability covers everything… but that’s not the case.
Knowing what your policy doesn’t cover is just as important as knowing what it does.
General Liability is designed to protect you from third-party injuries and property damage—but gaps in coverage can leave your business exposed if you’re not properly set up.
That’s why having the right combination of policies matters.

Think having an LLC means you don’t need business insurance? Think again.
An LLC is a great first step—it helps separate your personal and business assets. But it doesn’t protect your business from lawsuits, accidents, or employee injuries. That’s where the right coverage makes all the difference.
At C’side Insurance Agency, you’ll always work directly with clear, reliable support every step of the way.
We’ve got you covered.
