Join us with Thrive Out Loud in creating a custom theatrical performance in partnership with the Oceanside Theatre Company! May 22nd is Harvey Milks Birthday! Today we honor the life and mission of Harvey Milk.

Who is Harvey Milk?

Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man elected to public office in California. In his 11 months in office, he established himself as an important voice for the q***r community of San Francisco, sponsored a bill banning discrimination of the basis of sexual orientation in public accommodations, housing, and employment, and rallied support for voting against the Briggs initiative.

His assassination was devastating, but it was also a catalyst for social change. He became a legend in the community and has inspired many to continue his work towards a world without prejudice. Today we hope that you take inspiration from his life to give back yourself. Volunteer with LGBTQ organizations, donate to those in need, protest, advocate, organize for the good of the LGBTQ community, or spread some q***r joy! Gather your LGBTQ friends, let them know you appreciate them, and have a good time!

To our LGBTQ Youth. Harvey Milk could not have made the change he did without the support from the community of young q***r volunteers and voters on his team. We hope you take some inspiration from his story to pave your own path toward a better world.

National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a day for the consideration of young people in policy making, education, and medical care surrounding HIV/AIDS. Young people are the ones that will have to live with the consequences of our current approach to all three of these areas. Many today still feel the lasting impact of missing LGBTQ+ elders due to the massive public health crisis for aids in the 1980s. What you advocate for now, will encourage a vibrant future for following generations.

This day is also intended to encourage young people to seek testing, prevention methods, and get involved with advocacy for HIV care. Protect your friends, family, and intimate partners by protecting yourself.
