What Makes a Good Therapist?

-Your therapist should be respectful of your time.
-They should not be distracted.
-They should be empathetic.
-They should be using therapeutic modalities that are unique to YOU.

Thoughts are not facts.

We can become aware of our thoughts running through our mind throughout the day to help recognize negative thoughts, anxious thoughts, insecure thoughts.

Once we start to become aware then we can challenge these thoughts. We can remind ourselves that thoughts are not facts. We can look for evidence to help think alternatively.

Negative thinking patterns CAN be changed.

If you or someone you know is interested in adding therapy into your self care routine, I am currently accepting new Telehealth clients in PA, NJ, DE and FL.

Life Update ✨

Woke up in Costa Rica this morning with my favorite people and with 13 years clean. Grateful to have lived two lives in one lifetime. ✨

There are life circumstances that we cannot control and there are some things in our lives within our control.

Our mindset is within our control. We can change negative thinking patterns, we can shift the lens that we are seeing the world through and we can definitely improve our quality of life as a result.

If we are walking around thinking that everything bad is just happening to us, our spouse is unappreciative, the kids don’t listen, we do everything for everyone— most likely we’re feeling unhappy and behaving in a way that’s causing harm in our relationships.

If we are an adult walking around thinking that our unfortunate life circumstances are all our parents fault— most likely we’re staying stuck in unfortunate life circumstances.

We are responsible for ourselves. We are responsible for taking care of ourselves, mentally, emotionally, physically and financially. We are responsible for our own emotion regulation.

It’s not always easy but we will absolutely find more joy if we pull ourselves out of having a victim mentality.

No one can take care of you, the way that you can take care of you. ✨

Nighttime is when anxiety gets LOUD.

Not because something is wrong— because your brain finally has space.

A diagnosis is meant to help individuals receive the best treatment available and meant to help professionals assist individuals in treatment planning.

A diagnosis is not our identity. A diagnosis does not define who we are. If we’ve been diagnosed with cancer, we’re not likely to start introducing ourselves as Hey, my name is __ and I have cancer. We’re not likely to do this because we’re so many other things outside of having cancer.

The same goes for a mental health diagnosis. If we’ve been diagnosed with a mental health disorder like an anxiety disorder, a substance use disorder and/or personality disorder (bipolar, borderline) we are so many other things outside of being diagnosed with a disorder.

The first thing to note if we’ve been diagnosed with a mental health disorder is to seek a second opinion.

Diagnoses can be wrong.

The second thing to note if we’ve been diagnosed with a mental health disorder is to know that no matter what the diagnosis says - We are not a crazy person. We are not damaged. We are not hopeless. The diagnosis is not our identity. All of the parts that we love about ourselves make up our identity and the diagnosis will serve as a place to continue to grow all of our favorite parts of our self.

High functioning anxiety often goes unnoticed, especially in women.

Because from the outside— everything looks fine.
But internally— it’s exhausting.
