Our Story
The Oakland Athletic Rowing Society (OARS) is focused on building team camaraderie as well as individual character and self-discipline, while pushing the boundaries of our team’s success. We were founded in 2016, with the goal of overturning stereotypes in this sport and creating a team culture rooted in diversity, sportsmanship & scholarship.
We are committed to developing a team competitive at the national level, while developing individuals into strong community leaders. Many life lessons are taught through the sport of rowing: teamwork, commitment, sportsmanship, leadership, competitiveness as well as community awareness.
We expect and place emphasis on our rowers excelling not only on the water but academically as well. We strive to make rowing accessible to anyone interested in participating in the sport.
