Beloved Communities Network
Our vision is to cultivate a pathway to transform the culture of violence, domination and extraction into a culture of collective thriving and regeneration.
The Beloved Communities Network is a continuation of the years of work and wisdom that went into building the Transitions Initiative. As we continue on this journey of transitioning to a world of love, interdependence and resilience, the Beloved Communities Network will build from the foundation that has been laid,
while also strengthening, reinforcing and designing new ways to leap into the worl

Facing In is a growing community of facilitators, healers, ritualists, and practitioners who are coming together to deepen their work, support one another, and explore what becomes possible through collective practice.
Over the past year, the community has been taking shape through conversation, relationship-building, and collaboration. What began as an idea is now emerging as a space where people who spend their lives caring for others can connect, learn, and grow alongside peers who share a similar commitment.
Beloved Communities Network is honored to serve as Facing In's incubator as the project continues to evolve. We're grateful to be in community with Facing In and the many practitioners helping bring this work to life.

A new mural is coming to Courtland Creek Park.
The Melrose Mural Project is a community-led effort to transform a large wall in the park into a public artwork shaped by and for the neighborhood. The project has already received City approval and will be led by artists David Burke and Pancho Pescador.
One of the things we love most about this project is how many different threads of community life it brings together. A children's book featuring Freddy the Octopus, inspired by the mural at the Melrose Community Garden, is helping support fundraising efforts while giving neighbors a shared story to rally around.
Beloved Communities Network is proud to serve as the project's fiscal sponsor and incubator, helping support fundraising, partnerships, and long-term sustainability as the project works toward its $65,000 fundraising goal.

Books have a new home at the Beloved Community Garden.
Our Free Little Library was recently installed through a partnership with Eat Learn Play Foundation, Oakland Public Library, and neighborhood leaders helping bring more Little Free Libraries to Oakland communities. Alongside the garden beds, it offers one more way for neighbors to share resources, stories, and knowledge. A book today; seeds soon; a community pantry not far behind.
If you're passing by, stop and take a look, bring a book if you have one, and take one if you need one.

We’re honored to share that the Oakland Horizon Story Project has received support from RWJFoundation!
The Oakland Horizon Story Project is a community-rooted initiative working to imagine and build pathways toward long-term collective thriving in Oakland through storytelling, futures thinking, systems analysis, and community engagement.
Rooted in the work of Norma Wong and Collective Acceleration, this project brings together residents, organizers, artists, and cross-sector partners to help shape a shared vision for Oakland’s future, and identify the leverage points, strategies, and prototypes needed to move toward it.

We are grateful to have joined so many inspiring leaders, practitioners, and changemakers at the 2026 Trust in Practice Summit
Hosted by the Aspen Institute and the Alliance for Social Trust, the summit brought together leaders, practitioners, and changemakers from across the country to explore how we build trust, strengthen belonging, and create communities where everyone can thrive.
We're honored to have been part of these important conversations and inspired by the opportunity to connect with leaders such as Dr. Uché Blackstock and Ade Salami, along with so many others working to strengthen the social fabric of our communities.
Thank you to Aspen Institute and Alliance for Social Trust for the invitation and for creating a space for learning, connection, and collective action.

We’re excited to welcome Facing In as a new network partner of Beloved Communities Network.
Facing In supports individuals and communities impacted by trauma, conflict, and harm to move from separation and isolation toward deeper connection, with more dignity, authenticity, and accountability, in service of collective liberation.
Their work spans conflict transformation, healing and therapeutic support, ritual and spiritual practice, and untangling whiteness – all grounded in a commitment to transforming harm into healing and division into connection.
We’re grateful to be in relationship and excited for what we’ll build together.
