Design Action Collective collaborated with Spitfire Strategies to support The BIPOC Arts Network and Fund (BANF) arts advocacy nonprofit in Houston in a collaborative process to embrace a new name, a new visual identity, and broadened mission. The newly named Houston in Color launched its new identity and website with a commitment to resourcing Houston area artists. We are grateful to Houston in Color for their investment in artists so creative communities can thrive.

đŸ”„ Netroots Nation 2026 is here!

How can we win the battle of the story in this moment of authoritarian consolidation? How can graphic designers, artists, and media makers learn from past movements to create strategic visual communications that help win campaigns today?

Join us for "Design on Democracy: Media Makers Resisting Fascism" this Thursday, June 4 at 10:30 AM—a timely conversation exploring tools, practices, and real-world case studies from creatives on the frontlines of narrative change and movement building.

We’re especially excited that our own Sabiha Basrai will be part of this powerful panel, sharing insights on the role of design, storytelling, and creative strategy in defending democracy and advancing social change.

DAC is a huge fan of Hari Kondabolu and we had fun collaborating on this project, built to budget using a commercial theme.

Project Highlights
- Custom illustration
- Multimedia galleries
- Quotes
- Events listing

Hari Kondabolu is a comedian, writer and podcaster based in Brooklyn, NY. The NY Times called him “one of the most exciting political comics in stand-up today” while Newsweek said of him, “The comedian is not afraid to be confrontational and aggressive with issues that make people sweat—racism, sexism, classism, colonialism and white privilege—while putting his vulnerabilities onstage through jokes and anecdotes that turn discomfort into laughter.”

On April 15, 2024, the Golden Gate 26 took action where institutions refused to. They shut down the Golden Gate Bridge to protest U.S. support for Israel’s assault on Palestinians and to demand accountability for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Now, seven of the 26 protesters are facing felony charges and up to 15 years in prison for daring to speak out.

But repression will not crush resistance. Criminalizing protest will never silence solidarity. From the Bay to Palestine, we will continue to organize, resist, and fight for liberation.

Design Action worked with LEAF (Latino Education Advancement Foundation) to design a website on Squarespace with an updated brand identity. The site’s main goals were to recruit more donors and make their educational programs easy to apply to.

Project Highlights:

Easy-to-read, typographic logo: We chose a legible, sans serif font to keep the brand identity approachable and easy to read. This echoes how LEAF’s programming makes their content accessible to their audience.

Colors and textures add emotional depth: The styles play on themes of roots and home. “Leaf” imagery informed the color palette. We also referenced architecture from Latin America, such as imagery of weathered walls, to add subtle texture.

The Latino Education Advancement Foundation (LEAF) focuses on improving economic outcomes for socio-economically disadvantaged Latinx students and other students of color, with a focus in East San José, CA.

May Day 2026 đŸŒč—International Workers’ Day AND Design Action’s birthday—holds a special place in Design Action Collective’s history. The day’s spirit of worker rights and empowerment is a core reason DAC exists. As a worker-owned cooperative, we continue to cultivate worker leadership and a democratic workplace in both our practice and our work.

Happy May Day! And Happy Birthday to Design Action!!!
