Even a quarter-gallon of used motor oil can contaminate 250,000 gallons of water. Never pour it down a drain, into the ground, or into your trash. Beat the heat in your garden by using compost and mulch! They become a super duo if you use them both. They help control moisture and temperature in the soil, making it easier for your plants to deal with fluctuating temperatures. Big swings in moisture and temperatures can have detrimental effects on your garden and can cause your plants to die off, leaf drop, and cracking of fruit.

Here's our recommendation on how to use and apply them:

Add 1 inch of compost to your garden annually.

Add 3 inches of coarse mulch, think wood chips, around woody perennials.

If you have fine mulch, like straws and leaves, add 1 inch around fleshy annual plants.
