As we come together to celebrate the World Cup, we're also celebrating the real MVPs, our fathers and father figures! 💙⚽

In honor of Father's Day approaching and the excitement of the World Cup, dads and father figures from across our Head Start sites joined their children for a day of soccer and community. 🤩

Former Oakland Roots player, Coach Robert kept the energy high with fun soccer activities and skill-building exercises, while our community partners from La Clínica shared healthy recipes and nutrition tips through an interactive cooking demonstration.

From goals on the field to memories made off the field, the day was filled with teamwork, joy, and quality time together. Thank you to all the fathers and father figures who show up, lead with love, and make a difference every day. ⚽🏆

Celebrating the next generation of leaders! 🎓✨🦋

This spring, we proudly honored our second annual Latinx Mentoring & Achievement (LMA) graduates from Fremont and Skyline High Schools. Held in the heart of Fruitvale, the San Antonio Senior Center, the celebration brought together students, families, mentors, and staff to recognize a year of growth, perseverance, and achievement.

From academic milestones to personal accomplishments, our graduates have shown what’s possible when young people are supported by a community that believes in them. 💛

A special thank you to our dedicated LMA Specialists and mentors for their guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout the year. We also extend our gratitude to the staff who worked behind the scenes to make this celebration possible and create a memorable experience for our students and families.

Congratulations to all of our graduates, we can't wait to see the incredible futures you continue to build. 🌟

Orgullo, Sin Prejuicio, Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Pride Month is a celebration of love, identity, resilience, and community. It is a time to honor the LGBTQIA+ community, recognize the progress that has been made, and reaffirm our commitment to the work that still lies ahead.

At The Unity Council, we believe that vibrant communities are built when every person is welcomed, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive. This month, we celebrate the diversity, strength, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals who help shape our neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities every day.

Guided by the spirit of Orgullo, Sin Prejuicio—pride without prejudice—we reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces where everyone can live authentically, feel a sense of belonging, and be treated with dignity and respect.

As we continue building a more equitable future for all, we stand in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ community members and allies.

La lucha continúa, and together, aquí estamos.🤩

This Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, we are proud to celebrate the staff members who help shape The Unity Council and the communities we serve every day. 💛

From Guåhan to the Philippines, from Cambodia to China, from Tonga to Fiji, from Vietnam to Nepal—our AANHPI staff bring the languages, cultures, traditions, and lived experiences of their families into the work they do across Alameda and Contra Costa counties. 🌏✨

They teach our children, steward affordable housing, support small businesses, strengthen community programs, and help build a future rooted in equity, care, and opportunity. 💫

For more than 60 years, The Unity Council has been a place where many peoples, cultures, and stories come together to build one community.

Congratulations to The Unity Council and all partners, funders, and collaborators on the groundbreaking of 2700 International in Oakland, a transformative mixed-use development that will bring 75 units of permanently affordable housing, including 22 supportive homes for formerly homeless veterans. In addition to housing, the project will provide commercial space and community-centered amenities designed to promote wellness, education, cultural enrichment, and neighborhood connection. Affordable Housing Month is a reminder that strong communities start with stable homes! 🏘️💛

This month, we were proud to celebrate a major milestone alongside partners, supporters, and community leaders at the groundbreaking of 2700 International Blvd — a future home for 75 permanently affordable housing units, including 22 supportive housing units for previously homeless veterans.

Every shovel in the ground represents something bigger: investment in Oakland families, pathways toward stability, and a future where more neighbors can thrive. 🌳✨

Thank you to the incredible partners helping make this vision possible: City of Oakland , Oakland Housing Authority, Bank of America , Housing Trust Silicon Valley, Enterprise , Raza Development Fund , co-developer Eden Housing , contractor Branagh Inc., architect Pyatok , and Insight Housing . 💛

Affordable housing changes lives — and together, we are building a stronger and more equitable Oakland.

La lucha continúa. Aquí estamos y no nos vamos.✊
