Manhattan Legacy Service (MLS) is honored to have been chosen by ORNL staff as an FY25 Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year recipient.

Our staff are dedicated to supporting the mission with efficiency and excellence, ensuring our clients and their projects are given detailed vigilance for completing all tasks with professionalism and on time.

Last week MLS attended the 2026 Oak Ridge Procurement Fair sponsored by Oklo, Inc. The event was hosted by the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce and facilitated by the Tennessee APEX Accelerator office of East TN.

ORCC board member and Y-12 employee, Gene Patterson, opened the event by introducing the sponsor, Oklo, Inc., where Oklo's mission and vision for the Oak Ridge Valley was shared, followed by APEX representative Jutta Bangs, who spoke about the Tennessee APEX Accelerator at UT CIS and what it offers to businesses.

We heard from Stephen Williams, the director of the Tennessee Small Business Development Centers (TSBDC) and a director at Roane State, who spoke on the assistance TSBDC has for businesses.

MLS, represented by Diana West (owner), Miriam McKim (Business Manager/Contract Administrator), and Michael Yeary (Chief Programs Officer), then met with several prime contractors in who have a presence in the Oak Ridge Valley to discuss additional support opportunities within the DOE and national security mission space. These opportunities would allow MLS to provide experienced and knowledgeable employees in both the professional and security fields to continue the dedicated and excellent service MLS is known for, by utilizing early, mid, and late career employees who are committed to serving our nation.

The owner of MLS is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, and MLS has had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with the University to prepare to hire students with experience. We act as a hiring agency for those companies who wish to hire new and rising talent, which eliminates the cost of hiring, benefits, etc., for the hiring companies but want to keep costs to a minimum. Additionally, utilizing MLS as the employer for new hires is a very expedient and efficient way to hire your new staff!

We have a lot to offer when it comes to our employees.
We have employees who have engineering degrees in chemical, industrial, and environmental management. They have experience in material control and accountability, counterintelligence, program management, material processing, material disposition, global security and nonproliferation. They have received various awards throughout their previous work at these plants.
On the security side of MLS, we have employees with a cumulative of 94 years in security experience as security guards and former security directors. MLS’s security force includes many veterans and those with other security backgrounds.

MLS is a business with employees having not only extensive knowledge of the nuclear field, but also in security. Of all of our MLS employees and staff, we have 19 who were former CNS employees with a cumulative of 443 years worked, 12 who formerly worked at UT Battelle with a cumulative of 89 years worked, and 3 who formally worked at LLNL with 65 years cumulatively.

Safe to say that we are proud of our employees and their dedication to their field of expertise.
