This Saturday is the Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club Kids Day on 6/20 from 2 – 4 pm! Please note the time change for this program. Kids Day gives children and teens the chance to get on the air, talk with radio operators, and discover how fun and accessible ham radio can be. Experienced hams will be on hand to share their equipment, answer questions, and inspire the next generation of radio enthusiasts.

Our second Wonderful Wednesday program is coming up tomorrow (6/17) at 11 am with Knoxville Opera! Performers will sing show tunes, popular opera songs, and more. Perfect for all ages. We hope to see you there!

Next week’s program on 6/24 is an entomology program with Associate Certified Entomologist Aaron Veal. Ever wondered what’s crawling, flying, or buzzing in your backyard? Aaron will guide us through the incredible diversity of insects and what makes them so important.

The historic Flattop House is open next Sunday (6/21) from 1-4 pm! A friendly volunteer will be on hand to show you the house and answer your questions.

The Flattop House is an add-on experience to your museum visit. Visitors can tour the house for a small additional fee. Flattop admission is free for Reciprocal Sustainer and above members and for children ages 1 and younger. We hope to see you there!

Next week is Third Sunday on 6/21 from 1 - 4 pm! Enjoy an open house of the Kids Go Green! Environmental Center and Gardens, Solar House, and Train Garden (weather permitting). Visit the Knoxville Area Model Railroaders, Inc. clubhouse, and collect some vintage and international stamps from the Knoxville Philatelic Society

6/21 is also Father’s Day, and we will have a special Father’s Day craft-to-go at the Front Desk for the first twenty children. We hope to see you on dad’s special day!

P.S. The historic Flattop House will be open but requires a small additional fee. A volunteer will be on hand to show you the house and answer your questions.

Thank you Tennessee Members 1st Federal Credit Union for their $4,000 donation to support our field trip scholarship program! This donation helps schools all over East Tennessee visit the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge at free or reduced rates. We appreciate their support!

Our America 250 Hands-on History Day is this weekend! Join us on June 13 from 10 am – 4 pm for some semiquincentennial fun, included with admission.

Our activities include…
🌿 Kitchen herb garden planting, natural fabric dyeing, and bubbles in the Kids Go Green Environmental Center and Gardens

🇺🇸 Cartridge making
🪶 Writing with a quill and pen
🧶 Weaving on a collaborative loom
🫟 Experimenting with quilling, printmaking, and invisible ink
⛵️ Model Durham boat making
🖍️ Revolutionary War paper doll decorating
🧩 Decoding secret messages around the Museum for a prize

Wonderful Wednesday programs are BACK for the summer! Every Wednesday starting tomorrow (6/10) through July 22 at 11 am, we host educational and interactive programs for children and their families in our gym. Included with admission!

Tomorrow’s Wonderful Wednesday program is by UT College of Nursing! We will be learning about germs and proper handwashing to stay healthy. Participants will get the chance to see “germs” glow under a blacklight and test their handwashing skills too.

Next week, on June 17, we will have performers from the Knoxville Opera for a fun, musical morning. We hope to see you there!
