Soul Food Sunday Recap ❤️🖤💚
Today we celebrated Juneteenth a little early with a Soul Food Sunday event and fundraiser hosted by the Mayme Carmichael School Organization.
The menu was full of favorites: meatloaf, fried chicken, baked chicken, pig feet, neck bones, collard greens, mac and cheese, and so much more! Our 105 year old family matriarch, Aunt Clara, made a huge tub of her famous kraut salad, and I baked four pound cakes... but accidentally dropped one on my deck. 😭 Thankfully, I had only committed to bringing three!
Family members and friends from Oliver Springs and beyond came together to support a wonderful cause: Tri-County African American Cultural Museum. What a legacy to preserve and celebrate.
This was our first event without our cousin, Rev. David Benjamin. His bright smile, loving spirit, and presence were dearly missed today.
My heart is full after a day of fellowship, good food, and community. Thank you to all of the MCSO members, family, friends, neighbors, and community for your hard work, donations, and support to a worthy cause. Now it's time to enjoy my plate, cool off, and get some rest.
Peace & blessings!

Soul Food Sunday Is Here!!!!!
Mayme Carmichael School Organization’s Soul Food Sunday is this Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 12pm-3pm! Advance ticket sales only, so be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible. Event information is below, and I hope to see you there!
I’ll be making at least three homemade pound cakes for the occasion. I know quite a few people have been hoping I’ll bring my famous candied yams, too. I haven’t decided yet. I’m not sure I’ll have the energy. It’s been at least two years since I last made them, especially for this event! If you want to meet some of my fabulous family members and friends this is the place to be. Aunt Clara is 105 and always makes a huge tub of homemade chow-chow.
Looking forward to a wonderful day of great food, fellowship, and community. See you Sunday!
