Elder abuse is often hidden, underreported, and committed by someone the older adult knows and trusts.

As part of our Elder Abuse Awareness series, we encourage everyone to learn the signs, start conversations, and check in on the older adults in your life. Awareness can make a difference.

Together, we can help create a safer community for older adults.

Our June Newsletter is here!

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, and this month's feature article takes a closer look at a problem that often goes unseen but impacts far too many older adults in our communities. Learn how recognizing the signs and building stronger support systems can help prevent abuse and improve the lives of older adults.

We've also had a busy and productive month at the Anderson County Family Justice Center! In May, our team attended the Tennessee Statewide Family Justice Center Conference hosted by the Office of Family Safety in Chattanooga, where we learned alongside professionals from across the state who are committed to improving services for survivors.

We also hosted our Order of Protection Roundtable, bringing together judges, attorneys, advocates, law enforcement, and community partners for an informative and collaborative discussion about improving access to safety and justice for survivors.

And be sure to check out this month's Partner Spotlight featuring Project Linus, an incredible organization that provides handmade blankets to children facing difficult circumstances—including many of the children served through our center.

We hope you'll take a few minutes to read this month's updates and learn more about the important work happening in our community!

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, a time to recognize, understand, and help prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and sexual abuse. While many people picture a stranger as the perpetrator, the reality is that elder abuse is most often committed by someone the older adult knows and trusts—frequently a family member, caregiver, or other close acquaintance.

Because abuse often happens behind closed doors, it can go unnoticed for months or even years. By learning the warning signs and staying connected to the older adults in our lives, we can all play a role in prevention.

Take a moment and learn about the different types of elder abuse and how you can help protect the older adults in our community.
