As we all know on game days getting REFEREES and especially ASSISTANT REFEREES can be a real challenge. Please help the region add to our trained referee pool by encouraging any parents or youth who are 12U and above to consider taking the REGIONAL REFEREE ONLINE + IN PERSON COMPANION COURSE. Do your older kiddos need volunteer hours??
The requirements to be certified as a Regional Referee are:

Minimum Age: 12 years old
Complete steps below

STEP 1: (mainly new volunteers!)
To be a volunteer you must:
1. Register on ayso390.org for Referee Program (additional users MUST login through the invite with their own username and passwork)
2. 18+ complete the background check emailed from Sterling Volunteers (please do not change anything when submitting! Please make sure your info on AYSO390.org is correct first before strating the background check)
3. Before your first match, complete on AYSOU under Safehaven: CDC Concussion, sudden cardiac arrest, Safehaven, and safesport

Course Dates - April 18, 2026 THIS SATURDAY
Course Time - 3PM to 7PM - probably less time than listed.
Course Location - First Presbyterian Church (Oak Ridge) 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge Tn, 37830

This course is two parts:

1. AYSOU- navigate to the Training Library and to the Referee section. Find Regional Referee Online + In-Person Companion Course, complete the online portion FIRST.
2. After completing the part online training- navigate to Training Event and search for 390. Find our event for the 18th and you can enroll in the course

Region 390 volunteers will receive an equipment starter kit, includes referee jersey, shorts, socks, whistle, lanyard, referee book.

Referees are added to the Region's group email and will receive weekly updates on the upcoming schedules. Volunteers add themselves on the share sheet for when they are available. Referees are only asked to do certain games for many reasons but all AYSO referees are not assigned, they volunteer! Assisting at least once a weekend helps so many volunteers and players to have a great game!

Refereeing is an item that all constantly work to advance on, the region provides training and mentors for anyone wanting the extra help.

We’ve got a fun opportunity to share from the ORHS Boys Soccer staff—and it’s a great way for your kids to get involved and be part of the action! ⚽

To help keep games running smoothly (and keep that ball in play!), the team is looking for youth volunteers to serve as ball handlers on the sidelines. Each game (JV and Varsity) needs 4 helpers—2 on each sideline, 1 on each half.

If your child is interested, they’ll not only get front-row experience, but also:

🎟️ Free admission for themselves + one adult
🥤 A halftime drink and snack
🙌 A fun way to support the team and our community
My kids have done this before and had an absolute blast. It’s a simple role, but they really feel like part of the game!
