Compass Architecture focuses on new construction and renovations/additions of residential buildings, both single-family and multi-unit, as well as small commercial projects.

Happy New Year! 2024 was an interesting one for Compass: we designed a large side addition to a deconverted 2-flat on west Superior St to create a single-family home, and shortly thereafter we were also hired to combine two graystones on Oakdale Ave into a single-family home. Compass Architecture has been awarded not one but two Historic Preservation Awards for front porches in Oak Park! Perhaps that is why we were recently hired to design a new front porch on an historic Oak Park rowhome. The porch was meant to recreate the original porch, which is similar to the porches further north. Here's the before picture along with a progress picture.

A fun back addition project that's underway in Oak Park for a growing family. The rear sleeping porch (which was enclosed at some point) is being town off for a proper addition which will contain a Mud Room, Family Room, Powder Room and Primary Suite.

We're excited to share photos of a recent project. Our client asked us to deconvert a 2-flat and add a side addition that would work with the existing building, while also having some modern "flair" in the back. Below you can see the before and after as well as renderings of the proposed addition.

A large part of our portfolio is multi-unit buildings for developers. In this project, we have four multi-unit buildings, including a corner building with ground floor commercial where we are close to receiving the approval from the Alderman.

Excited to see this project get realized. Converting an old two-flat into a single-family home with a side addition that was meant to blend in with the original. Upon entering, one sees the (former) exterior brick wall which draws a line between old and new. And the exterior cladding on the back of the addition brings a modern twist by utilizing vertical metal paneling.
