If you are considering working with a college counselor, ask these five questions before you decide:
1. How do you build a college list?
A strong answer involves getting to know the student first. A weak answer starts with rankings.
2. How do you approach the essay?
A strong answer is about helping the student find their own voice. A weak answer is about editing.
3. What does your communication look like throughout the process?
A strong answer is specific. A weak answer is vague about availability.
4. How do you handle a student who is resistant or disengaged?
A strong answer shows they have done this before. A weak answer assumes the student will just cooperate.
5. What happens after the applications go in?
A strong answer covers financial aid, decisions, and the final choice. A weak answer stops at submission.
The right counselor will have clear, confident answers to all five.
Save this before your next conversation.

The job market for recent college grads is the toughest it's been in 30 years, and AI is only accelerating the shift.
HelloCollege founder Kevin Krebs was recently featured in QCity Metro, speaking to a growing national conversation about what comes after high school.
Only 9% of 18-24 year-olds are enrolling in trade school, even as 500,000+ trade jobs sit unfilled. The math isn't aligning with the opportunity.
Whether your student is headed to college or considering another path, understanding the full picture matters.

Admissions officers aren’t hunting for a perfect kid.
They’re hunting for a clear story.
The data proves it.
Our most successful students last year weren’t the straight-A, SAT-1600 unicorns.
They were the students who could articulate:
- who they are
- what they care about
- and why they belong on that campus
And when you build that story the right way, the results follow.

One of the biggest wins we see is when a student stops believing a score defines them.
Test prep is not just content. It is mindset.
When a student learns how to stay calm, how to reset, and how to approach questions differently, everything changes. Scores rise. Confidence grows. And students finally see what they are capable of.
These breakthroughs are the real victories.

It's not about micromanaging. It's about knowing when support is needed before the stress hits full speed.
Families always say the same thing after working with us:
“I wish we had started earlier. This made everything so much easier.”
Getting help is not a sign your teen cannot handle it.
It is a sign that you are paying attention.
