Alright, this ain't some innovative groundbreaking speech, but a conversation I'd like to amplify and talk about. By now you've hopefully heard a million and one reasons as to why Spotify as a company sucks ass and we should not be giving them our money or supporting them in any way, or participating on their platform. But if you're new to this conversation I implore you to look into this stuff more.

Without rambling on forever or potentially saying anything incorrect, I'll just give a small run down of where we're at.
Not only is Spotify the lowest payout for artists (we're talking fractions of a cent), they are also complicit and engaged with many unethical and immoral practices such as funding AI war machines and other AI related practices that screw over and exploit artists. They've recently been allowing ICE to run ads on their platform. And the CEO is just an overall scumbag running yet another corporation that values profit over people and doesn't respect artists at all. On top of many other things...

Anyway, my main point for today is, I will not be sharing my Spotify Wrapped, and I will be cancelling my Spotify subscription as a user (as I should have a while ago) and I encourage everyone to do the same. I understand we've both created and perpetuated a culture that thrives on convenience, one which I have been accustomed to, however we have to be willing to ask just how worth it that "convenience" is, where we draw our lines, and what kind of culture we want to live in and sustain.

As an artist, I am still on the fence of whether I want to keep my music that I care so much about on a platform that so earnestly goes against so much of what I stand for and write about. And frankly, whether it's really all that worth it. I get the potential for exposure, but again, is it worth it? More and more I think not.
So to my fans that have predominately listened to me on Spotify, first of all thank you. I am incredibly grateful for everyone who has listened to, enjoyed, or resonated with my music in any way, I appreciate you greatly and your support is never lost on me.
Moving forward, I'd like to insist you find another way to support me and listen to my music. Because I feel a day coming soon where I pull from Spotify all together, if not right after I post this lol.

Streaming as a whole is quite frankly not a sustainable or worth-while practice for artists, but that's a bigger conversation to continue having soon. For now, f**k Spotify, get off it, there's other platforms that work just as well that are at least somewhat more ethical and there's apps to transfer our playlists some of us have worked so hard to build lol. And if you really want to do the most? Support artists directly. Buy their music from their Bandcamp or website, with a one time purchase you OWN that music and they get most, if not all, that money. I for one have one of my albums on my website for digital purchase, all of that money goes to me, and you keep that music without fear of it suddenly being taken down from streaming for whatever reason. I plan to add my entire catalogue to my own site for available purchase and download, just like Bandcamp (but without the cut Bandcamp takes lol)

And the most effective way to send a corporation a message? Hit em where it hurts most, their wallets. Put our money where our morals are.

I've been often thinking about the lengths we use to go to in order to get our hands on music that we loved or even just wanted to check out. Or why any of us creatives got into music or art in the first place. Understandably, we've become pretty complacent in this culture of algorithms and convenience that's been insisted upon us. But this sure as s**t ain't what I signed up for back when I started.

But, with any luck we can all get back to a culture that actually cares about and values artists and musicians. One that has a deep appreciation for art, not just a "consumable" one.
