A major problem people face when growing tomatoes and peppers is blossom-end rot. There’s nothing worse than investing time, energy and money into your garden, only to find that all of your veggies have soft black bottoms in the end. There are 2 easy steps you can take to prevent this.

Lack of calcium is the most common cause of end rot. Fertilize with a natural calcium supplement such as oyster shells, or we often recommend a dual-purpose product like Seabird Guano or Super Phos Bat Guano. They’re both high in phosphorus which increases fruit size, while also providing high doses of calcium.

Make sure you’re not over-watering your garden. Let the top of your soil visibly dry out in between waterings. If you’re finding that’s difficult, next year make sure you add more drainage or fast-draining media to your garden (perlite, coco coir, etc.).

We were asked A LOT through the whole quarantine period for nice-looking countertop hydroponic systems so people could grow their own greens and herbs at home, or so they could do science experiments with their out-of-school kids without their apartments looking messy. Well, we found it. The Hydroplanter is “pretty” with its sleek bamboo housing and, more importantly, it’s a legitimate hydroponic system. It is a top-feeding recirculating hydroponic system that is “smart,” in that it has an app-controllable Wi-Fi plug so you can set up your feeding schedules from your phone. It comes with everything you need except for nutrients and a grow light, but we’ve got you covered on those! 😉
