Edward Hopper House
Birthplace/family home of artist Edward Hopper, Museum/Study Center w/early work & contemporary art.
It was built in 1858 by his maternal grandfather, and served as his primary residence until 1910. After Hopper’s death the house fell into disrepair, but was saved from demolition and restored by members of the local community in 1971.

This week's photos in our series are on view in the Hopper Happens Juried Photography Exhibition. They capture sunlight falling across buildings, much like the scenes that inspired Edward Hopper.
He once said, "Maybe I'm not very human. What I wanted to do was paint sunlight on the side of a house."
For Hopper, light itself was often the subject, transforming ordinary scenes into some of his most memorable paintings.
Explore all 55 photographs with a self-guided walking tour through downtown Nyack using the Museum's Bloomberg Connects guide, or experience the exhibition online from anywhere. Many of the works are also available for purchase through ArtCall. On view throughout the summer.

Our esteemed juror, renowned photographer Richard Tuschman, had the difficult task of selecting this year's prize winners. These works beautifully capture the cinematic light, solitude, psychological depth, and sense of place often associated with Edward Hopper's work.

Happy Father's Day! 💙
Pictured here is young Edward Hopper, age 12, with his father, Garret Henry Hopper, in the backyard of their family home circa 1894, now the Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center.
Garret shared his love of books and literature with his son and encouraged Edward's early artistic interests. Rather than steering Edward toward the family dry goods business, Garret recognized his son's artistic gifts and encouraged him to pursue his own path.
Today we celebrate fathers and father figures whose encouragement, guidance, and belief in their children help shape the lives they lead.

This week’s images in our series explore one of the most recognizable motifs in Edward Hopper’s work: windows.
Presented as part of the Juried Photography Exhibition on view throughout downtown Nyack through July 5, these contemporary photographs by artists from around the world capture the light, mood, solitude, and quiet tension associated with Hopper’s work.
For Hopper, windows were never just architectural details. They were a space of reflection, observation, separation, and stillness between interior and exterior worlds.
