What is that?!

We’re kicking off a new series where we answer some common questions that come up during the homebuilding process and explain the features, materials, and construction details you might spot on a jobsite.

In Episode 1, we’re talking about beam pockets. That opening in the foundation wall isn’t a mistake! It’s intentionally left in place so the steel I-beams that help support the basement have a place to sit. Once the beams are installed, the pocket will be filled with concrete.
