Scripture -
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled,” - Matthew 5:6
Devotion -
As Jesus preaches His sermon on the mount, He goes through a series of “blessed are” statements that run counter to many people's ideas of virtue at the time. Rome was in control, and the people of God were oppressed by being heavily taxed and poorly treated. In this verse, Jesus tells those who long for righteousness that all shall be made right and their hunger for righteousness will be filled. Previously, when Jesus was about to be baptized, John the Baptist said, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” (Matt 3:14). Jesus assured John that it was necessary to fulfill all righteousness. In other words, this was the way God willed it to be. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection satisfied the will of God and satisfied our need for a savior.
Do we long for things to be made right, and are we willing to stop and fix them? Jesus is the only way we can. A relationship with Christ gives us knowledge, wisdom, discernment, but especially love. A love that can endure all things, living in the hope of Jesus’ return. That endurance is needed when we are putting things in order because the natural state is for them to fall apart. There’s a reason why we consume the word and drink the blood, to remember Jesus and all He has done, giving us His perfect peace as we work out our salvation in fear and trembling.
Prayer -
Dear God,
We give thanks for this day. We ask that we depend on Jesus by praying before we do our tasks. Help us manage our daily responsibilities and our relationships in a way that glorifies You. We invite the Holy Spirit to be with us as we interact with the world so that they may see Your light shine. Lord, help us make things right as Jesus has made us right with You. Help us endure all things from the love that comes from You, in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Scripture –
“The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.” – Psalm 19:1
Devotion –
This Psalm of David is for the chief musician and describes the perfect revelation of the Lord in all His creation and His word. As witnesses of His work, the perception of it transcends speech, thereby making it clear to all, regardless of language or place, that He reigns, sovereign.
A statement that covers the range of our scope can easily be taken for granted and overlooked, especially when we get caught up in being busy. When we take a moment to observe and allow fascination to sink in with questions, we see a world full of ways in which the Lord has set for us signs of His presence and craftsmanship. The beauty of a flower, the drama in nature, the cycles, seasons, and epochs, all glorify the Creator of the wonder of it all.
Prayer –
Dear Heavenly Father,
We give thanks for making Your presence plain as day to us. We can get into a pattern of simply going through the motions, not diving deep into Your word or shifting our minds toward heavenly things. Help us stay focused on the important things, loving You first, then our neighbor, and giving You glory by serving. Give us wisdom through it all, in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Scripture -
“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” – John 15:2
Devotion -
In this passage of scripture, Jesus presents an analogy to His disciples in which He is the true vine and the disciples are the branches. God the Father is the gardener who cuts off branches that don’t bear fruit and prunes the ones that bear fruit so they will be more fruitful. Apart from the vine, the branches are useless.
As followers of Christ, we must understand the importance of our relationship with Jesus. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. To an outsider, this does not make sense as they do all kinds of things without Jesus in their life. But Jesus is not talking about worldly things; He was talking about heavenly things. We are called to bear fruit that is all righteousness and love for God and others, through the relationship with Christ, in which the hand of God works, tending to our needs for our good and for His glory. God does not want us to be useless in His kingdom, but if we were cut off, we know it was our actions or lack thereof that initiated the cutting.
Prayer -
Dear Heavenly Father,
Proverbs 9:10 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Help us temper our ideas of grace with wisdom and understanding of Your character. Help us be catalysts for Your kingdom, people who are compelled to share the gospel from our relationship with Jesus, so that we can make disciples and grow for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Scripture -
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6
Prior to John 14, Jesus was washing His disciples' feet, showing them how they ought to treat and love one another. As He does so, Jesus predicts His betrayal and death. Peter claimed his loyalty to Jesus, but Jesus told him, “you will disown me three times!” Jesus assured them that He was preparing a place for them in His Father’s home, and they knew the way to get there. Confused, they told Him they didn’t know the way to where He was going. Today’s verse is Jesus’ response to the confusion.
How can we know Christ and be in a relationship with Him? This seems like a wild thing to outsiders, but we understand. We primarily know Christ through the Word. Christ was the Word made flesh—the realness of scripture incarnate. The way is how we live and who we live it in. When we live our life in Jesus, we are humble, serving and loving those around us, not overstating zeal but staying under His grace.
Prayer -
Dear Heavenly Father,
Keep us on the narrow way, holding fast to us by Your loving grace and mercy. As we encounter others, help us have a serving heart that is wise and discerning. As we read Your word, give us clarity and the knowledge to understand and apply it, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Scripture -
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” - Matthew 5:3
Devotion -
In chapter 4, Jesus had been tested in the wilderness, but the devil left Him, and Jesus was attended to by angels. He began to preach and make disciples, going throughout Galilee and teaching in the synagogues. Large crowds from different regions followed him. Jesus went up on a mountainside and opened with a series of “Blessed are” statements that go against the grain of what virtue was to many people of the time.
The kingdom of heaven belongs to those who are poor in spirit? Yes. We can think of several moments in the gospel where this takes place, notably with the thief on the cross. As the man suffers with Jesus, he recognizes that Jesus does not deserve what they are going through. He says, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!” The man knew Jesus was the Son of God and acknowledged it. If Jesus has a kingdom, then He is the king. A man poor in spirit, suffering with Christ, mourning for his sins, recognizing he does not deserve heaven, and calling Jesus king, that is a humble and contrite heart. A heart that longs, thinking “this is it,” and then Jesus responds, “Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
Prayer -
Dear Heavenly Father,
We give thanks that You hear our prayers and that You help us understand Your will through the word. Help us share this message with those who are poor in spirit, those who are desperate, tired, and lonely. Only You can restore them and bring them assurance, love, and peace. Help us be workers for Your kingdom and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Scripture -
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9
Devotion -
In God there is no darkness, only light. Jesus is the light shining on man, illuminating them and drawing us away from the darkness. 1 John 1 shows us that if we claim to have a relationship with Jesus and still walk away from the truth, we are liars. But if we abide in Christ, our relationship with Him overflows in fellowship with one another, and we are being purified from sin. If we claim we are without sin, we are not truly in a relationship with Jesus. This is why we are to confess, and He will make us new.
We gain knowledge and understanding through illumination of the word. We can choose to follow Christ and be sanctified over time. Confession is not sharing our secrets into the ether; it is much more interesting than that. How can we confess to things if we think we did the right thing? Jesus’ perfect life confronts us, and as we read about Him, we get to know His character and divinity. When we hear His words, we are confronted with the fact that our sin can or has driven us into darkness. Confession is the act that catalyzes setting things in their proper place, admitting we have done wrong to the Lord, and doing our best to make and do things right because He has made us right with God.
Prayer -
Dear Heavenly Father,
Forgive us for any sins we have committed. We are not perfect, but we know we are being sanctified through a relationship with Jesus. We ask that the Holy Spirit draw us nearer to You in our daily walk with Christ. Help us, lead us, and guide us in Jesus’ name, amen.

Scripture -
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” - 1 Peter 5:6
Daily Devotion -
The beginning of chapter 5 in 1 Peter addresses the elders of the flock. They are to care for and watch over their people with a willingness to serve, not to use their position to control their flock. Both the young and the elders are called to be humble toward God, then to one another. God shows favor to those who are humble and lifts them up in due time.
Humility is interesting. One should refrain from calling oneself humble but should know how to exercise humility. Maintaining humility can be very difficult if we show a high aptitude or ability in an area, especially in leadership. The natural tendency is to control the direction of matters between people and a flock. God calls both elders and the younger to be servant leaders. Those who have humbled themselves get to higher positions with a humble heart because they know it is God who has lifted them up.
Prayer -
Dear Heavenly Father -
Help us be humble and wise, depending on Jesus in all that we do. He came to this earth “not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.” We chose Jesus as our example and give thanks and praise to God for the love we are given through Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
