It’s melasma awareness month !
👉🏻Melasma is a common skin disorder. It is an inflammatory condition that most often starts between ages 20-40. However, many women will experience melasma in their perimenopause and menopause years. Often caused by pregnancy, hormones, and contraceptives these dark brown and/or grey patches appear most commonly on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip and chin.
☀️This condition often worsens during the summer months due to the heat and sun exposure. There is no cure for melasma. It will often fade and worsen over the years due to hormone fluctuations and lifestyle.

When inflamed the best course of treatments are in office chemical peels and hydroquinone topicals at home. This regimen however is generally only recommended for the Fall and Winter months. It is important when dealing with melasma that your skin care regimen fluctuates from season to season.
