We had such a great time at Norwalk’s Touch-a-Truck event earlier this month! 🚒🚛

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, learn more about Open Doors, and bring food donations for our pantry. And a big thank you to the City of Norwalk, CT for once again including Open Doors and giving the community an opportunity to support our pantry while enjoying a fun day with their families.

We loved seeing so many familiar faces and meeting some new ones! 💚🧡

We need your help getting our community ready for the colder months. 🍂🧥

Our next Community Closet Donation Day is Tuesday, September 29, from 1–3 PM. Donation Day takes place on the last Tuesday of every month.

We are now accepting fall and winter clothing and accessories, including coats, sweaters, boots, hats, gloves, scarves and other seasonal essentials.

We are also accepting household items, books and toys, and we are currently in urgent need of toiletries and personal care items.

Please remember that donated items should be clean and gently used, and toiletries should be new and unopened. We want every person who visits the Community Closet to have access to items they can feel good about taking home.

Your donations help make sure our neighbors have what they need as the seasons change. 🧡💚

This month, we’re proud to recognize Mutual Security Credit Union as our Community Partner of the Month! 🧡💚

MSCU continues to show what local partnership can look like in action.

At their recent Shred Day Donation Drive in Norwalk, they collected a carload of food for our pantry and made a generous $2,500 donation to support our work. But their impact goes far beyond one event.

For the past four MoneyWise cohorts, MSCU team members have partnered with our Economic Opportunity Hub to help participants build financial knowledge and confidence. They have also made banking more accessible for shelter guests and clients who want to open an account, helping make the process simple and waiving fees for those connected with Open Doors.

We are so grateful to the entire MSCU team for continuing to show up for our neighbors and our community in so many meaningful ways.

There is something powerful about a community coming together and choosing to make an impact.

We are incredibly grateful to 100+ Women Who Care Fairfield County for their generous donation to Open Doors, and especially honored that their members nominated and voted to support our work.

This gift will help us continue providing shelter, resources, and personalized support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness as they work toward greater stability.🧡💚

For many of the people we serve, a bike represents so much more than transportation. It can mean getting to work on time, making an appointment, picking up groceries, or simply having the freedom to get where they need to go.

Thanks to the generous support of the City of Norwalk, CT, our new bike rack and canopy will give clients a safe, secure, and covered place to keep their bikes, and one less thing to worry about as they move through their day.

We are incredibly grateful to the City of Norwalk for seeing the value in this project and for investing in the people we serve. Support like this creates practical change, strengthens independence, and helps build a community where people feel supported every step of the way. 💚🧡

🌟 Volunteer of the Month: Zach! 🌟

Sometimes volunteering starts for one reason and becomes meaningful for a completely different one. That’s exactly what happened with Zach.

What began as a way to complete volunteer hours quickly became something he truly enjoyed. He found purpose in helping others, being part of the community, and seeing the difference his time could make. Even after completing his hours, Zach kept coming back—and that says so much about the impact volunteering can have on the volunteer, too. 🧡💚

We’re so grateful for Zach and the time, energy, and heart he continues to share with Open Doors.

Today, we remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the first responders who showed extraordinary courage, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

We also remember how, in the face of unimaginable loss, people came together to help their neighbors, support one another, and show the strength of community.

Twenty-five years later, may we continue to carry that spirit with us—not only today, but in the way we show up for one another every day.

We will never forget.
