✨ A Little Perspective on Cancellation Policies ✨

Today alone, if everyone who asked to cancel their appointment had done so, I would have lost $320 in income.

This post isn't directed at any one person. Today's number just felt like a good example of something many small business owners deal with regularly.

When you book an appointment, that time is reserved exclusively for you. In most cases, it's too short of notice for me to fill that spot, which means that time—and income—is simply gone.

I know some people think, "Well, that's just part of owning a small business." But imagine showing up to work and your boss saying, "Actually, we're only going to pay you for part of today because we didn't need you for a few hours." Most people wouldn't find that acceptable.

It's also important to remember that every time you book an appointment, you are agreeing to the cancellation policy. You actually have to check a box acknowledging it before the booking will go through.

So while I completely understand being disappointed by a cancellation fee, it's not a surprise policy that appears out of nowhere when plans change. It's something we both agreed to when that appointment time was reserved.

There is truly nothing more amazing than a client who knows they're outside of the cancellation policy and offers to pay the fee before I have to ask. 😂

Because let me tell you, sending that cancellation fee text is one of my least favorite parts of owning a business. I'm over here with sweaty palms, shaky hands, trying not to drop my phone while I type the message and mentally bracing for impact.

So when a client responds with, "I understand. Go ahead and charge the fee," before I even have to bring it up? Absolute MVP behavior. ❤️

Not because I enjoy charging the fee (I don't), but because it shows they understand that my time was reserved, my income was affected, and my business deserves the same respect as any other job.

My cancellation policy isn't there to punish anyone. It's there to protect the time I've set aside for you and the income I've planned around.

I appreciate every client who respects my schedule, understands my policy and gives as much notice as possible when plans change.

Just wanted to say thank you to all of my amazing clients for your loyalty, patience, and flexibility with my schedule this month. The second I see the “It’s Gonna Be May” Justin Timberlake meme, I know I’m in for it 😅

One of the biggest blessings of having a career with a flexible schedule is being able to soak up these moments with my kids while they’re little instead of missing them.
