🇺🇸 Happy Birthday, U.S. Army & Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸
Today we celebrate two enduring symbols of our nation:
🎖️ 250 Years of the United States Army (1775–2025)
For two and a half centuries, America’s Soldiers have answered the call to defend our freedom, protect our nation, and serve with honor.
đźš© Flag Day
We also honor the Stars and Stripes, a symbol of unity, sacrifice, and the ideals that make America strong.
As we proudly display Old Glory today, let us remember the generations of men and women who have served under its colors and continue to protect the freedoms it represents.

Northport Fire Department is reminding all parents and caregivers of the serious and potentially deadly dangers of leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.
- A child’s body heats up three to five times faster than an adult’s, placing them at severe risk of heatstroke, which can cause irreversible injury or death.
Experts say temperatures inside a parked vehicle can rise about 20 degrees in just 10 minutes, on a warm day, even if the windows are cracked.
The same precautions should be taken for pets.
With that said, Northport Fire Rescue would suggest these tips to tips to help out.
- Always check the back seat before locking and leaving your vehicle. Make it a routine to open the back door every time you park.
- Place your purse, phone, or other essential item in the back seat next to the child’s car seat so you check every time.
- Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.
- If you see a child alone in a car, call 911.

“Cooking is the leading cause of home fires, home fire injuries and the second leading cause of home fire deaths,” said Chief Marshall. “Most happen because people leave cooking food unattended. We want everyone to have a safe, enjoyable holiday, so please don’t leave the kitchen while you’re cooking.”
COOKING SAFETY TIPS - Follow these safety tips and visit redcross.org/fire for more information, including a fire escape plan to practice with your family.
- Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food.
- Use a timer to remind yourself that the stove or oven is on.
- Avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves while cooking.
- Keep kids and pets at least three feet away from cooking areas.
- Keep anything that can catch on fire — potholders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, food packaging, and towels or curtains — away from your stove top and oven or any other appliance that generates heat.
- Clean cooking surfaces on a regular basis to prevent grease buildup.
- Consider purchasing a fire extinguisher to keep in your kitchen.
- Always check the kitchen before going to bed or leaving home to make sure all stoves, ovens and small appliances are turned off.
Smoke alarms save lives. Install a smoke alarm near your kitchen, on each level of your home, near sleeping areas, and inside and outside bedrooms if you sleep with doors closed. Use the test button to check it each month. Replace all batteries at least once a year. If you cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms or are physically unable to install one, contact Northport Fire Rescue for more information on how you can obtain one, phone: 205-333-3020.
