Some have a true gift of teaching, to explain complicated concepts with patience and clarity. I have been very fortunate to study with John, as he helped me rebuild my technique after many years of playing with pain. The examples he uses, and solutions he presents, teach me so much. I spent the evening reviewing two videos on a very specific part of piano technique and learned a lot!

I’ve been listening to Paul McCartney since this concert Saturday night. To hear the great music he’s written and sung over the years, and see photos from his lifetime, was amazing.

I often see that it doesn’t hurt to wait to start a beginner in lessons. This young lady is in 4th, and did a great job with metric counting tonight.

Due to various discounts, I’ve enjoyed a great summer of music at Ravinia. This week I get to see two groups I’ve wanted to see for a long time: Apollo’s Fire, an early music group playing period instruments; and Voces8, an 8-member a ca****la group singing sacred, Madrigal, and jazz arrangements. My happy place!

G started studying with me during his first year of high school. He leaves for college in a couple of weeks, but has kept up his practicing all the way through his last summer! Here’s his latest book graduation.

This determined student achieved 40 pieces at the last lesson of the semester today. She has made incredible progress with the help of her family. She was very excited!
