Every year, we train our staff on the full range of adaptive cycling: riding each type of cycle, making adjustments, practicing transfers, and learning how to manage a group safely.
It’s a lot to cover.
But then you go to Natick and teach a mom how to captain a wheelchair tandem. She starts riding with her daughter, and you see the joy on her face.
There’s no feeling like it.

Whatever the calendar says, it feels like it’s officially summer around here when the boats hit the water. What a glorious day for our first kayaking program of the season at Hopkinton State Park with DCR Universal Access Program.

2 wooden shims, 2 scraps of ensolite, and a whole lot of gorilla tape = yesterday's recipe for independent shifting! A trike customer who can no longer pull up on their bar end shifter to change gears just needed a little extra leverage to be able to continue riding independently. We fashioned this, and now with a combination of pulling up with their hand and pushing down with their forearm, our customer is off and riding again.
(Yes, yes, there's for sure a more permanent and elegant solution to be found, but why wait for perfect when you can be back out riding today?)
