‘When people look at their tax bill, they see a Fire Rescue assessment, so they say, well, Fire Rescue assessments aren’t affected, that’s non ad valorem, so they think it’ not going to touch the fire department at all, and that’s not true, The Fire Rescue assessment is only for the fire portion of our service. Emergency Medical Services, ALS care, all our ambulance services, that’s funded through the general fund. It’s the other half of our budget. And it doesn’t show on your tax bill specifically an EMS bill or an EMS portion, it’s just figured into the ad valorem taxes.”

North Port Fire Rescue Chief Scott TItus spoke with Real Talk this week to address misconceptions about property tax reform in Florida and how the proposed changes will impact public safety in North Port. Watch the video below and visit NorthPortFL.gov/PropertyTax to get the facts

Please join us in welcoming FF/EMT Blaze Cochrane to North Port Fire Rescue!

With a name like Blaze, a career in the fire service almost seems fitting.

Originally from Fort Myers, Blaze grew up playing baseball, riding BMX, and staying active in sports. He also comes from a family with ties to the fire service, which helped inspire his path toward becoming a firefighter.

Before joining NPFR, Blaze proudly served five years in the United States Navy as a Seabee (Builder Second Class). During his military service, he worked on large-scale construction projects overseas while leading teams and managing critical operations, experiences that helped shape his leadership and problem-solving abilities.

Blaze was drawn to North Port Fire Rescue because of the department's strong reputation, commitment to professionalism, and the opportunity to serve a growing community while continuing to develop as a firefighter and EMT.

When he's not at work, Blaze enjoys staying active in the gym, following sports, spending time outdoors, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.

We're excited to have Blaze as part of the NPFR family and look forward to the impact he'll make on our department and community. Welcome aboard!
