The City of Miami Government has a new Police Chief!

Today, we were honored to welcome Edwin Lopez as he was officially sworn in as Chief of the Miami Police Department.

Chief Lopez has deep roots in the community, having previously served as Chief of the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department and most recently as Chief of the Doral Police Department

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to compassionate leadership and building trust through proactive community policing.

The Miami Police Department has gained a proven leader, and we are excited to mark this new chapter for the Department.

We look forward to continuing our partnership to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community through trust, respect, and collaboration.

Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness make the biggest difference.

University of Miami Police Lieutenant Addy Villanueva, President and Founder of Little Bear Big Heart, is ensuring that abused, traumatized, and victimized children receive comfort when they need it most.

Through her organization, loving bears are placed in police cars, fire trucks, courtrooms, and other spaces where children may be facing some of the hardest moments of their lives.

This work does more than support children and families. It helps humanize the badge, strengthen community trust, and reminds us that law enforcement is about more than solving crime - it’s a calling to serve in compassionate ways.

The Community-Police Relations Foundation is proud to support Addy and Little Bear Big Heart, and honored to call her a partner.

Honored to be recognized for our support of Do the Right Thing, a program that celebrates young people who demonstrate exceptional character.

While “Do the Right Thing” is sometimes used as a slogan, this initiative brings those words to life through the actions of our youth - who helped others in times of need, made positive choices, and who do the right thing even when no one is watching.

This unique partnership with the City of Miami Police Department recognizes students each month for their good deeds. Honorees are celebrated during the same ceremony as law enforcement promotions, where our youth and officers get to share in each other’s accomplishments and inspire one another.

We are proud to support this outstanding program and look forward to continuing to recognize the next generation of young leaders.

A special surprise for some incredible community partners.

The Community-Police Relations Foundation was honored to present a unique piece of artwork to the City of Miami Police Department Mounted Unit, featuring their beloved horse, Buster, who was proudly donated by our Foundation.

The Mounted Unit plays a vital role in bringing law enforcement and the community together, with the horses serving as a natural icebreaker and helping build meaningful connections.

Created by internationally acclaimed artist Margarita Howis, this piece celebrates the Unit’s dedication and impact on our community.

We were proud to surprise the team with this dedication and celebrate them for all they do to strengthen our impact.

Today, we're revisiting a powerful conversation that brought students and law enforcement leaders together at the University of Miami

Bridging the Badge was a first-of-it’s-kind forum where students could directly interact, ask questions, share perspectives, and connect with police leaders from across South Florida in a real way.

Together, we created a comfortable space for authentic dialogue about law enforcement trust, community policing, and the future of public safety.

Moments like these redefine relationships and how the community perceives the badge.

Thank you to our intern Yamileth Delgado for helping bring this vision to life, and to University of Miami Police Chief Trevor Shinn, City of Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales, Miami Dade Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Chris Carothers, North Miami PD Chief Cherise Gause, Coral Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak, and everyone who participated in this meaningful exchange.

We're proud to continue creating opportunities that connect communities and those who serve them.

This is what mentorship looks like.

"Every child is a gift from God with a future full of hope and a heart ready to dream big."

Those words from Officer Carlos Rosario of the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department capture the impact of the Police Mentorship Program at Dr. Gilbert L. Porter Elementary School.

Through mentorship, officers build trust, inspire confidence, and remind students that there are people who believe in their potential - people who just happen to wear a badge.

We are proud to support this program, helping foster deeply impactful relationships between law enforcement and the next generation while encouraging students to dream bigger.

Mental health touches us all.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re honored to highlight Omy Llaneras - a chaplain with the Miami-Dade Multiagency Peer Support Program, wife of a law enforcement officer, and valued partner of the CPR Foundation.

Every day, our first responders carry the weight of trauma, anxiety, and experiences most people never see. Those burdens don’t just impact officers, they ripple through their families and entire communities.

Through meaningful programs we support, like Struggle Well and Peer to Peer, we are working to ensure that those who dedicate their lives to serving others know they are not alone.

Thank you, Omy, and to all those who show up to shed light and deliver hope for our bravest.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Their courage protects the freedoms we live with every day, and their legacy lives on in every community they’ve touched, including the ones we serve and work to uplift every day.

We remember. We honor. We thank you.
