USS Razorback (SS 394) submarine served the United States Navy and the Turkish Navy from 1944-2001.
USS Razorback (SS 394) submarine served the United States Navy from 1944-1970, serving during World War II, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War. The submarine was then sold to the Turkish Navy and served from 1970-2001, making her one of the longest serving submarines in the world. Now visitors can board the submarine for a guided tour, birthday party, or even an overnight stay at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Retired U.S. Navy Captain Al Carney (a native of Hot Springs, Arkansas) commanded the recommissioned battleship USS Missouri (BB-63) from June 1986 to July 1988. He led the "Mighty Mo" on its 1987 around-the-world shakedown cruise and deployment to reopen the Straits of Hormuz.Captain Carney’s tenure as commanding officer included several notable milestones:Recommissioning: He took command on June 20, 1986, shortly after the USS Missouri was brought out of mothballs and modernized with new missile systems.Straits of Hormuz Deployment: In the summer of 1987, Carney led the battleship on a high-stakes mission to es**rt a 20-tanker convoy through the dangerous, mine-laden Straits of Hormuz amidst the Iran-Iraq War.Global Tour: He helmed the battleship's global cruise, which included diplomatic port visits such as a stop in Istanbul, Turkey, to honor Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.He retired from the Navy after 27 years of service, having also commanded the destroyer USS Leftwich (DD-984).
