Integrity Movement Lab
Multi-disciplinary body and age neutral training studio: Barbell Club, kettlebells, strength training, the Gyrotonic Method
Gyrotonic exercise was invented by Juliu Horvath, a renowned Romanian ballet dancer, gymnast, swimmer and yogi. The system uses three dimensional, circular movements on hand-crafted wooden machines with friction, spring and weight resistance, while employing yoga breathing techniques. The exceptionally functional Gyrotonic exercises develop a balance between maximum strength and flexibility, incre

I was working with my life coach at the time, , who was helping me come to terms with feeling lead to coach strength training and therefore taking my instruction and studio into a very different direction. I had been evolving as a movement teacher. Because of educational content such as , among other science-based coaches and therapists, I felt very much like I was "waking up" and "deprogramming" and wanted my business name to reflect this new direction. I knew it was right, yet I was terrified for so many reasons.
What was a word that reflected the energy I was looking for?
I felt like it had to have something to do with honesty or truth.
Then I thought of integrity: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you consistently adhere to, regardless of circumstance. Trina asked me to change my IG name right then and there.
The logo wing image was the product of conversations with graphic designer . She knew me when I was fresh from the first of my kettlebell certifications. She saw my passion to educate and empower my clients, and how this change came during challenging times after Covid.
"I see a phoenix", she said. I almost cried. "Yes! I love it!"
And the rest is history.
Almost four years later and I'm happier than ever to have made that choice because the evidence of that change can be seen in my clients who are stronger and more athletic than they ever thought possible. They have risen and taken flight.
I am extremely grateful for my friends who supported me and my clients who trusted me during this process. Here's to more years of evolving and growing together. β€οΈ

"I'd rather be strong than skinny - especial when I'm 80".
When statistics show that 50% of women over the age of 50 will fracture a bone due to osteoporosis in their remaining lifetime, there is NO TIME TO WASTE in getting strong. πͺπΌπ
Sarcopenia (age related muscle loss) has been redefined to include the loss of strength and power.
Join our twice weekly BARBELL CLUB - inspired by the LIFTMOR trial - where we work on the technique of lifting, learn the meaning and application of progressive overload and build our power - our ability to be reactive and explosive - great abilities to have as we age. Also - WE HAVE FUN!π
It's NEVER TOO LATE!

and I joined other personal trainers and physical therapists for the BARBELL REHAB course this past weekend in Portland, ME with the great .squats β€οΈπβ€οΈ
The course content reinforced information that we've heard before from many evidence-based fitness professionals and PTs:
The human body is a resilient and adaptable living thing. No need to "drop everything" when you get a set back and/or start using 2 lb. weights and bands for 6 months. Injuries are due to a multitude of factors. Beware of imaging and rushed surgery. There are many ways to adjust movements to keep going. Strength is progressive and adaptation and healing occur, sometimes more slowly than what we desire.
We got some great tips as we practiced the major barbell lifts and looked at case studies.
Thanks to for hosting.
Can't wait to implement this information. πͺπΌππͺπΌ

Don't confuse skill work with strength work. π€―
Modalities like Gyrotonic and Pilates are skill work, not strength training.
Yes, form is important, but you also need tissue capacity. That is your body's ability to tolerate stress.
We know that muscles, tendons and bones need a gradual increase of stressors to become more resilient. This is why more and more dance trainers are advocating that dancers include progressive overload strength training into their weekly routines, just like other athletes.
Strength training is not just about aesthetics - it's about driving the adaptations that will make you more tolerant of heavier forces and repetitive movements.
Skill work teaches you the movements and what's required of your sport, but strength training will give you a body better able to tolerate and execute those skills.
Form alone does not save you from injury. (And BTW you can have the most perfect form and be as strong as an ox and still get injured - there are several factors that can lead to injury including "s**t happens". has a great bunch of slides on the subject).
I became a NASM personal trainer back in 2002; I then became a Pilates and then a Gyrotonic trainer. I continued to strength train and run. My experience in fitness 25 years ago focused on aesthetics.
Since Covid I have delved deeper into movement science, realizing that my older clients were generally extremely under-loaded and so many positions and movements were challenging for them. I've since trained with strength coaches, StrongFirst kettlebells and barbells (with weight and form tests), PlusPlyos and will take more courses this summer.
Some of my clients and friends like , are like completely different people, in ability and confidence, since consistently practicing strength training. Strength makes everything easier, including the form and positions of Gyrotonic or Pilates.
