# # Celebrating Excellence: Seaman Juan Mondragon, Top Sailor at RTC Great Lakes!
Join us in congratulating Seaman Juan Mondragon, 29, of Ontario, Oregon, for graduating as the top Sailor from Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes and earning the prestigious Military Excellence Award (MEA) on March 12, 2026! π
Mondragon's achievement is a testament to dedication, teamwork, and outstanding leadership. As he shared, "No one can succeed alone. The teamwork we built every day and the leadership from our RDCs made this possible. I may be the one receiving the award, but it represents everything our division accomplished together." His words truly highlight the spirit of unity and collective effort at RTC Great Lakes.
The Military Excellence Award is presented to recruits who exemplify enthusiasm, devotion to duty, military bearing, and teamwork throughout their rigorous training. Mondragon's journey to serve something greater than himself, stemming from a long-standing desire to protect those who can't protect themselves, is truly inspiring.
Prior to joining the Navy, Seaman Mondragon brought valuable experience from healthcare, emergency response, and even as a wildland firefighter and EMT. These experiences, he noted, instilled in him the calm under pressure and team-first mindset crucial for military training.
We wish Seaman Mondragon the very best as he heads to San Diego, California, for his follow-on training! Fair winds and following seas! βοΈ
