Why do I get bird nests when I start stitching...Part 1

That tangled bird’s nest underneath your fabric may not mean something is wrong with your machine.
At the beginning of a stitch line, take a moment to lower the presser foot, lower the needle into the fabric and hold the thread tails gently behind the machine for the first few stitches.
This small routine helps keep those loose threads from being pulled underneath the fabric.
