Known as the Human Beat Box, Doug E. Fresh and a team of fellow DJs – the Get Fresh Crew – burst onto the Hip-Hop scene with the release of “The Show” in 1985. The song was only the fourth rap single to reach gold record status. Fresh was a pioneer of “beatboxing” – the mimicry of early drum machines to back emcees or rappers in cyphers in the early years of New York Hip-Hop.

Fresh will headline entertainment for the 24th Annual Alabama A&M University Black Tie Gala, April 19, 2024 at the AAMU Event Center.
